Pit Bull Attack in South Carolina

A 4-year-old boy from Oconee County, South Carolina is in critical condition at the hospital, after being attacked by a pit bull Friday.

Reports say the dog tried to bite the paramedics that showed up at the scene.

The boy Cameron Salinas was attacked at a home on Union Crossing Road. April Stowe, the owner of the dog, reported that she saw the dog attack and immediately used a broom to hit the dog over the head. Unfortunately the dog would still not let go.

The dog weighed about 125 pounds which was close to three times the size of the boy. The dog was shot 8 times by deputies before it was presumed dead.

Salinas suffered bites to his thigh, leg and a major artery was severed.

Dog bites account for close to 4.7 million bites each year throughout the United States. Over 40 percent of the dog bites occur among children under the age of 14.
